Bakers roll into Melbourne

Bakers from around Australia and New Zealand will be congregating in Melbourne this September, with a series of industry events running in conjunction with the Fine Food exhibition.

The first event on the menu is BONZA – The Australia New Zealand Bakery Conference. This new event will bring together professionals from both sides of the Tasman for a week of baking business talk.

The conference runs from 4-8 September and has the simple and appealing theme of ‘Making More Money’. Sessions include financial management, succession planning and new products. The seminars are followed by field trips to rural Victoria and time at the Fine Food exhibition.

The second event is the Official Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition. This popular event runs from 5-9 September and will attract around 800 pies from around the country. A team of ten judges will taste their way through every entry and award Gold Medals to truly outstanding examples.

The third event is Bakeskills Australia. This annual event sees teams of apprentice bakers from each State competing head to head in a live bakery. From 6-8 September they will prepare a range of products from scratch under the watchful eyes of expert bakers.

The fourth event is the Baking Industry Awards Dinner. This prestigious event sees the presentation of the Bakeskills Awards and the Baking Industry Scholarship. It will be held at the Rydges Hotel in the city on 8 September.

Of course the biggest event of the week is Fine Food. This international trade exhibition will feature over 750 exhibitors and 25,000 visitors.

In recognition of the importance of the sector there is a special section within the show called Bakery World. It is like a show within the show, and will showcase the latest ingredients, equipment and finished product.

Exhibitors currently booked into the exhibition include Australian Bakels, Borgcraft, Boscastle, Cerebos, Chefs Pride, Kraft, Mrs Macs, Oppenheimer, Patties, Readybake, Pizza Marketing, Sunbeam and Vili’s. Equipment suppliers include Bromic, Curtin, Confoil, Goldstein, Hobart, Moffat, JL Lennard and Nuline.
